PURIFICATION AND PRAYER

While reasons for attending Sweat Lodge Ceremonies are personal, generally speaking the experience is to deepen spiritual awareness. The steam, heat, and darkness intensify prayers and personal introspection. The activities of the fire tender and lodge leader are to provide an energetically safe space for this to occur.

The Sweat Lodge Ceremony is a very physical way to pray, it takes time and it is a hard way. During the time it takes to prepare the fire and the lodge, we can settle from the day, come into our center, and find that quiet place inside.

There are many things I have learned from sitting on the Mother in ceremony, it is a deeply personal journey and at times difficult to articulate. One thing I think I'm learning is a deep respect. Respect for the Elders, for those who have gone before us, for the wisdom of the Mother, for the wisdom of doing ceremony. It is a blessing and a privilege.
